Okaloosa Island

Okaloosa Island Lifestyle Okaloosa Island is the last of the destin area beaches in Okaloosa County, and lies along Scenic Gulf Drive, formerly Old Highway 98. This small community has many condos, and houses near the beaches. It has the usual gorgeous white sand beaches, with emerald green water, and lots of neat places to stay. It has lots to do, waverunners are permitted here, and some of the rental services offer hobie cat rentals, and parasailing also.

Okaloosa Island Pier

Okaloosa Pier

The original Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier was built in 1972 and extended 962 feet into the Gulf of Mexico. The current pier opened in 1998 and now goes out 1262 feet, which is almost 1/4 mile. An octagon at the end greatly increases the fishing area and lets anglers fight the big fish. Large fish are what we are famous for. You don't have to spend thousands of dollars and go way off shore to test your skills against some of the largest fish in the gulf. Tarpon weighing over 100 pounds, tuna, king mackerel, cobia, and dolphin are all ready to test your strength and abilities. Sailfish while very rare have been caught off the pier.

Island Dining

Okaloosa Island Dining

Back Porch - Attracting bikini-covered crowds, the Back Porch is a cedar-shingled seafood shack with a sweeping sugar beach view. Its claim to fame is as the originator -- and most scrumptious supplier -- of the local favorite "fish dish," chargrilled amberjack.

AJs - Dangling along the bustling Destin docks of the "World's Luckiest Fishing Village," tiki-topped AJ's cooks an angler's fresh catch straight off the line. From fried blue crab claws to spicy steamed shrimp, it's also the perfect place to devour buckets of deep sea favorites.

Okaloosa Island DiningThe Lucky Snapper - offers the best of both worlds with indoor and outdoor dining. Savor exotic specialties inside while enjoying a view of the Destin Harbor or a tasty burger and fries in the salty sea air while watching boats go by and soaking up the sun.

The Crab Trap restaurant is simply sensational seafood served with pure Southern hospitality -- nestled in the beautiful James Lee County Park and overlooking the area's famous waters.

Angler's Beachside Grill and Sports Bar -- located on the boardwalk on Okaloosa Island -- serves sumptious seafood creations. Choose from eating on the boardwalk and enjoying the breathtaking view to catching up on the latest sports happenings while watching one of two large screen TV's located in the sports bar.
